What’s the family role when it comes to relationships?

Your relationship is your decision, but you cannot exclude your family from that decision. They should always support you in prayer. Also, it can be helpful to listen to advice from your family members especially during the courting stages, but you have to put your needs first because you will be the one living with your spouse. Once you are married, engaged, or in courtship, it will be helpful to set boundaries for the extent to which your family can get involved in conflicts or decisions. There need to be limits, set by you and your partner, to which your family can get involved in. It is easy to get caught up in the opinions of your close family members opinions, but the most important opinion is God’s. “For this reason, a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.” (Ephesians 5:31) God has joined you and your partner together as one flesh, therefore the opinion that has the most value is God’s. It is advisable to seek advice from your father of confession before taking it to family members.
