Church News: Seven Sisters Recieve Monastic Garments

In the name of the Father, the Son, & the Holy Spirit, One God, Amen!

Seven sisters of Mount of Virgins Saint Dimiana have been given the monastic garments.

On February 20th, by the request of the Abbess (head nun of a convent: እመምኔት) Weletemesqel (daughter of the cross) and elders, by the presence of his Grace Bishop Peter, Locum Tenens of the Eritrean Orthodox Tewahdo Church and his Grace Archbishop Cyril of the Debub Region, sub-region Adi-Keyh these 7 sisters who were on training, have been consecrated as nuns (መነኰሳያት).

These seven nuns received the of the angles and have had a long and hard 4 and half years of learning as well as serving. The basic dogmas of the faith, the mysteries of the Church, the book of monks, Ge'ez, the prayers, as well as all the necessities of vigilant in aiding, humility, obedience, etc. Not only have been taught the Church's teaching but also they have taught a set of skills that might aid (help) the monastery stands on its own. This includes designing (making of) vestments, handwork, in these works these 7 nuns have been thoroughly tested.

On February 20th, the rite of shrouding, the Angelic schema, and the monastic garment was done, at last, the day was finished with the celebration of Liturgy. This monastery is the first all-female sanctuary was consecrated for 4 years, it had 4 nuns and 6 sisters, now it consists of 24 more sisters, and these sisters are in their training (preparation) period. Mount of Virgins Saint Dimiana Monastery is located in Asmara, Geza-Banda Tiliyan near the Medhanie-Alem (Savior of the world) Eritrean Orthodox Tewahdo Church.
